Security & Trust

Manufacturers rely on ERP systems to manage critical operational and technical data. In regulated industries, that data may include controlled or defense-related information subject to strict security and access requirements.

The Genius ERP Trust Center outlines the certifications and programs that support the secure handling of sensitive information within Genius ERP.

Compliance & Regulatory Programs

Manufacturers operating in regulated industries must follow strict rules governing how sensitive technical data is accessed, stored, and shared. These requirements are defined by national security regulations and export control frameworks that apply to defense-related information.

Genius ERP participates in government programs designed to safeguard controlled technical data and support organizations that must comply with national security and export control regulations. These programs define requirements around authorized personnel, controlled access to regulated information, and the conditions under which sensitive data may be shared across borders.

The certifications and regulatory programs below outline how Genius ERP supports manufacturers working in regulated environments.

Registered – Government of Canada

Controlled Goods Program (CGP)

Genius ERP is enrolled in Canada’s Controlled Goods Program (CGP), a federal program that regulates access to sensitive defense-related goods and technical data within Canada.

Enrollment confirms that our organization has been vetted by the Canadian government and that our people, processes, and systems meet strict requirements for safeguarding controlled technical information.

CGP establishes controls for:

  • Authorized access to controlled technical data
  • Secure handling of regulated information
  • Governance around remote work and data access
  • Compliance with Canadian defense security regulations

Because Genius ERP operates under CGP enrollment, manufacturers can manage controlled technical data within the system while maintaining compliance with Canadian regulatory requirements.

Canadian ITAR Exemption

ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations)

The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) govern the export and handling of U.S. defense-related technical data.

Under the Canadian ITAR Exemption, certain U.S. defense technical data may be shared with authorized Canadian companies and employees without requiring an individual export license, provided strict conditions are met.

The exemption enables collaboration between U.S. and Canadian defense partners while maintaining strong controls around access, auditing, and data use.

To qualify under the exemption:

  • The recipient must be a Canadian person
  • The individual must be physically located in Canada
  • The data must be used only within Canada
  • The company must be registered under Canada’s Controlled Goods Program (CGP)
  • Access must be restricted, monitored, and auditable

These conditions allow certain ITAR-controlled technical data to be shared legally with approved Canadian organizations while maintaining compliance with U.S. export control regulations.

FAQs

What is the Controlled Goods Program (CGP)?

The Controlled Goods Program (CGP) is a Canadian federal program administered by Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC). It regulates access to controlled defense-related goods and technical data within Canada.

Organizations that examine, possess, or transfer controlled goods in Canada must register with the CGP and ensure that individuals with access to controlled technical data are properly screened and authorized.

How is CGP related to ITAR?

CGP and ITAR are separate regulatory frameworks but are closely linked in practice.

CGP regulates access to controlled defense-related goods within Canada, while ITAR governs the export and handling of U.S. defense-related technical data.

Registration under the Controlled Goods Program is one of the requirements that allows Canadian organizations to operate under the Canadian ITAR Exemption, which permits certain ITAR-controlled technical data to be shared with eligible Canadian companies without individual export licenses.

Is software itself “ITAR certified”?

No. ITAR does not certify software or technology platforms.

ITAR compliance depends on how organizations control access to regulated technical data, manage personnel authorization, and maintain proper export control procedures. Software systems can support compliant workflows through access controls, auditing, and secure data management, but compliance ultimately depends on the organization using the system.

Why does CGP registration matter for manufacturers?

CGP registration confirms that an organization has implemented security controls required to handle controlled defense-related goods and technical data within Canada.

For manufacturers working in aerospace, defense, or regulated supply chains, CGP registration helps demonstrate that their systems and processes meet government requirements for safeguarding sensitive technical information.
