Together, they talked about where ERP is heading, what still trips up manufacturers, and what it really takes to make an ERP project succeed.<\/span><\/p>

ERP Is Growing Up\u2014But the Fundamentals Haven\u2019t Changed<\/span><\/h2>

A lot of the talk around ERP today centers on <\/span>AI and the cloud<\/span><\/a>\u2014and while those are important shifts, Jean reminds us that the basics still matter most. \u201cEven in 10 years, the fundamentals won\u2019t change. ERP will still revolve around <\/span>data<\/span><\/a>, KPIs, and operational visibility,\u201d he says.<\/span><\/p>

Manufacturers will continue to focus on what drives performance: high-margin products, resilient supply chains, and smarter planning. The challenge is doing all that with limited people, a limited budget, and growing complexity.<\/span><\/p>

According to Max, the biggest evolution is that ERP is no longer just a backend system. \u201cERP will stop being just a back-end tool and start becoming a decision-making engine,\u201d he says. \u201cThe future of ERP is about surfacing data in real time\u2014making it useful, not just stored.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

That\u2019s where AI really comes in. Think less about automation for its own sake, and more about AI-powered insights: Systems that don\u2019t just alert you, but tell you what to do next and why it matters.<\/span><\/p>

The End of One-Size-Fits-All ERP<\/span><\/h2>

Both Jean and Max agree that the days of <\/span>generic ERPs<\/span><\/a> are numbered. Manufacturers have specific needs, and they need systems that reflect that. \u201cTailored workflows, reports, and dashboards will become non-negotiable,\u201d Max says. \u201cYou can\u2019t treat a job shop the same as a food processor.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Jean adds that <\/span>over-customization<\/span><\/a> is often a red flag. \u201cIf you\u2019re looking at tons of customization, ask yourself: Is this ERP really for my industry? If not, you\u2019ll spend more customizing than implementing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

A better strategy? Choose a system that\u2019s already <\/span>built with your industry in mind<\/span><\/a>\u2014so you get value from day one without reinventing the wheel.<\/span><\/p>

ERP Is Not an App. It\u2019s a Transformation.<\/span><\/h2>

If there\u2019s one key takeaway that both Jean and Max agree on, it\u2019s this: Implementing an ERP isn\u2019t just buying software\u2014it\u2019s <\/span>changing how your business works<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

\u201cERP is front-loaded. It\u2019s heavy at the beginning\u2014but worth it later,\u201d says Jean. \u201cThe worst decision is to start and stall. You lose momentum, trust, and time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

Max agrees: \u201cYou can\u2019t microwave ERP. It\u2019s not an app\u2014it\u2019s a transformation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

That means getting alignment across departments, defining clear goals, and sticking to your scope. When the whole team is on board, and you\u2019ve got a partner who can guide you through it, the payoff is huge.<\/span><\/p>

Don\u2019t Wait for Spreadsheets to Break<\/span><\/h3>

So, when is it time to upgrade from Excel and accounting tools to an ERP?<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

\u201cExcel is the most powerful ERP until it isn\u2019t,\u201d says Max. \u201cYou can do amazing things with it\u2014especially if someone on the team is Excel-savvy. But it\u2019s fragile, unstructured, and not built for collaboration or traceability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

Jean puts it this way: \u201cWhen your decisions start relying on too many spreadsheets, too many people, and too much gut feeling\u2014things break down. That\u2019s when ERP steps in.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

It\u2019s not about replacing every tool overnight. It\u2019s about <\/span>moving to a system<\/span><\/a> that gives you structure, traceability, and the ability to scale.<\/span><\/p>

You Don\u2019t Have to Go 100% Paperless<\/span><\/h2>

Another common myth? That a successful ERP rollout means going totally paper-free. Not everything needs to change.<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

\u201cPaperless is possible, especially in structured industries,\u201d says Jean. \u201cBut going 100% digital isn\u2019t always practical. It\u2019s more about conviction than ROI. Aim for \u2018less paper\u2019\u2014not \u2018no paper.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>

Max adds: \u201cERP allows you to digitize everything\u2014from work orders to invoices\u2014but only if your processes are clean. Otherwise, you just digitize chaos.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

The real goal is to <\/span>streamline how your team work<\/span><\/a>s, not force change for the sake of it.<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

Final Advice for First-Time ERP Buyers<\/span><\/h2>

If you\u2019re considering ERP for the first time, start with a simple question: Why are we doing this?<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

\u201cERP is a transformation\u2014not a tool purchase,\u201d says Jean. \u201cThe software is often only one-third of the total cost<\/a>. The rest is services, training, change management. And that\u2019s where the real value lives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

Max echoes the same point: \u201cERP isn\u2019t just a tech project\u2014it\u2019s a business project.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>

Don\u2019t just look for a vendor\u2014look for a <\/span>partner<\/span><\/a>. One who understands your industry, sets realistic goals, and sticks with you after go-live.<\/span><\/p>

 <\/p>
