After two unsuccessful experiences with other ERPs, Hinds-Bock now uses Genius ERP to manage the company’s complex engineer-to-order business platform.
Founded in 1962, Hinds-Bock has been in the business of designing, manufacturing and marketing filling/depositing equipment and related food & beverage machinery for over 50 years. Guided by president Gary Hinds, executive vice president Lance Aasness and vice president Rod Gregg, the company has established itself as a market leader from its base northeast of Seattle.
The team firmly believes in quality control and customer satisfaction, stressing the importance of going to any length to ensure customers receive the best possible products.
“Our company is based on a culture of looking after our customer,” explained Aasness. “It’s the golden rule, if you look after your customer you’ll be able to stay in business for 40 - or more - years like we have.”
After installing two ERPs that both fell short, Hinds-Bock management at least had an idea of what they truly needed: an ERP tailored for engineer-to-order manufacturing, one with specific functions for shops working in project mode. Management wanted an ERP that would integrate with SolidWorks to bring projects from design to delivery with no missteps. They also needed an ERP that would connect accounting with the manufacturing side of their business. And with pressure to find a solution fast, Hind-Bock needed to find an ERP that could be installed within a 3-month time frame.
After vetting major ERP systems, conducting key-user interviews and checking multiple references, Hinds-Bock chose Genius as the best fit as both a partner and as the right solution for long-term success.
“They really were experts,” explained Jennifer Hinds, project manager. “Not only in software – they also spoke the language of manufacturing. And after we signed the contract, we went live 3 months to the day.”
From the beginning of the implementation process, users were impressed with the support they received from the Genius team. Hinds-Bock realized immediate benefits at launch, including a running start on their newest orders as they went seamlessly from design to production with CAD2BOM. Genius Accounting began handling complex prepayments with ease, and the company connected accounting data with the manufacturing side of operations. “Genius takes a lot of the guesswork out of the numbers,” said Larry Riley, CFO at Hinds-Bock Corporation.
Another big win for Hinds-Bock is the ability to better manage its order and production processes. The company can now view all information associated to one job and track progress efficiently.
“We see an opportunity to grow as a leader,” explained Hinds. “An ERP system is critical to achieve this goal, which is why we chose Genius. It’s going to be the base of our growth for the next 5 to 10 years, and we can see great things coming from it.”
