Pascale Aubé: We’re one minute over. I think I’m gonna start. It’s just the intro, anyway, to start, so once again, if you have any questions, go into the Q&A section.

So today, Frank and I are going to talk about the product configurator. How we can accelerate your sales with less effort. To start, I just want to maybe introduce myself a little bit, I know, maybe for those who are coming to webinars. You are mostly used to seeing Frank, so my name is Pascale.

I used to be in a consulting team. So I’ve been with Genius for a couple of years now, and I’m now in the customer success teams with Frank. And that’s why I’m here today. So I’m gonna be here to talk to you about the product configurator.

François Doyon: And I know, Frank, do you wanna introduce yourself? Yeah, yeah, I mean, I see some familiar names on the list. So hi again to those new, welcome! Glad to have you on one of our Genius webinars. I’ve been with the company for about 8 years, actually moving on to 9. Wow! time flies and happy to bring you what we have to offer and some of the solutions that we can bring to the table. So today, I’m glad to pass the baton to Pascale so she can kind of take over this webinar.

And today’s gonna be about the product configurator, as you said. I think you probably have an agenda if we flip, and I just saw another 5 people just added themselves. So, I know, Pascale said it, we will not activate microphones today. So your way to communicate with us would be through the Q&A from the Zoom tools. If you go down to your bar at the Zoom Bar, you’ll have that Q&A section to type in there.

Don’t accumulate questions. Just put them in as you go. I might answer a few on the fly. We might answer them live as well. And at the end, we’ll give you an email if you would like to communicate with us directly, instead of putting some questions live here in the session.

Pascale Aubé: Thank you, Frank. So for today’s agenda, we’re gonna start with an intro, an introduction to Genius. So who is Genius, and that’s where Frank comes in, and then we’re gonna move on to why would you need a configurator? Why, what is that? So I’m gonna talk a little bit more about it. Then we’re gonna show a demo of the ingenious or product configurator, an example in Genius Desktop, and also in Genius Web, because it can be used in both.

Then we’re gonna just go ahead and talk a little bit about how can you start using it? What is the next step, and then we’re gonna conclude with the next webinars. And some questions, like Frank said, if you put the question as you go, then we’re gonna have a list at the end to be able to answer all of your questions.

François Doyon: Alright, let’s start with, who’s Genius?

So who are we here at Genius? Well, first of all, we’ve always been working with manufacturers for over 30 years in business. It started off with some consultation in the manufacturing, putting in place some ISO certifications and stuff like that. But very early on, code was written; it became a software solution company. So more than 30 years with the software. It saw a lot of versions, coming from DOS. If I remember correctly, originally in like ’89 or something. Today, we have around 120 employees; we’ve really grown. When I started about 8 years ago, we were probably, I think, the 46th employee, and now we’re 120. So pretty cool growth; you can see that at the bottom, 25 annual growth, even through Covid. So pretty proud of that.

Today we’ve got tens of thousands of users. And that’s a pretty cool feature number here, 96% of people that join with us typically stay with us. We’re a good fit solution, let’s just say that for manufacturers.

Actually, why, we’ll see that in the next slide, if you can please fast-forward.

Oh, there’s one in between, the bragger slide, I call it. So yeah, we get some badges from a lot of these selection websites. So if you’re looking for an ERP, there are a few solutions, aren’t there, that capture? software advice places. We can go to kind of filter out the noise between all of these ERPs out there. And yeah, we’ve been getting a lot of badges recognition from these websites. Also, you can see here the, I think it’s called a magic quadrant from Gartner, and you can see we score pretty high here, even compared to bigger names out there on ease of use and satisfaction from our customers. So pretty proud of that one.

Why are we a good fit? I think that will probably be the next one. Yeah. Well, said it a few times, we’re built for manufacturers, but more especially we’re built for custom manufacturers. So whoever does engineer-to-order, configure-to-order, really a topic today or make-to-order.

So you might be making things that are similar every time. But there are some options; it’s kind of really never the same thing that pops out of your shop. So this is why we have tools like the product configurator we’re gonna be talking about today. But also, if you go even more deeper in design and release, we do have tools that integrate with CAD systems, with our CAD to BOM that integrates very well with SolidWorks and Inventor, for example.

And that also leads to having the necessity in a shop to manage your schedule, manage what’s conferred, what’s the priority, what’s your capacity. These are all tools that we have, even leading-edge technology through the DBR and the constraint type scheduling that you could also find, by the way, in our webinars and all these topics in our recording section of our website. So if you go to resources and type a few keywords, you’ll be sure to find all of these topics on the previous webinars that we’ve done in the past. So don’t hesitate, and don’t forget to check out the last one, that was business intelligence. I really meant to say that we make a thing to have your data available to you. So a lot of ways of accessing your data straight from the software. But also, if you want to build these dashboards, indicators, we’ve got a pretty neat tool that we brought to the web more than a year ago. That’s been, let’s just say, crossing a lot of walls, really bringing our customers to the next place.

And how do we offer all of these features? Well, how does it all bring together functionalities that go from accounting to quoting to field service to… We cover a whole lot of ground just with the out-of-the-box functionality of Genius. This slide is meant to tell you it’s all in the same system. It’s all made by Genius, and it’s all implemented by the Genius team like Pascal in the past. And I guess in the background, if you need to know, this is based on SQL technology. So the data is hosted on a SQL server, and then the front end can be either through a desktop app or web interface for most of our screens.

Oh, yeah, that’s true. If you are not with Genius yet and you’re wondering what does it mean? And I think I just talked about web screen desktop and SQL, so how does that work? Well, you can actually buy it and install it on your own server, might that server be at your facility or maybe hosted in the cloud. So you can definitely buy and put it on there. The other thing you can do is rent it and put it on one of your servers; that’s the second option. And so that’s subscription-based. And the last one is also subscription-based, but it’s actually through our hosted SAS. So we will install it on our servers hosted on the web. We will manage the environment for you; that’s kind of part of the subscription, and that makes your life way more easier to access the system moving on.

I’m gonna take that last call because I just cut you off twice to remind you, because I just saw we even got more people joining in. So again, we’re not gonna open the mics today. Just hit the Q&A section from Zoom. If you have any questions or comments, it might be like good job, or it could be like, you guys are boring. We don’t mind; any comment is good. But if you do have anything to say, that’s the place where we can see your comments. Thank you.

Pascale Aubé: Thank you. So next, we’re gonna really go ahead and talk about why we would want a configurator or a product configurator. So you could have different reasons why you might need a product configurator. And those are some examples that we often see on-site or with different customers. So those are examples of reasons why you might want to have a product configurator.

First of all, maybe your actual sales process systematically involves engineering. What do we mean by that?

For example, you are quoting and don’t know all of the options that you can give to the customer. You don’t know if it’s possible. Then you need to go back into engineering. Engineering can tell you yes or no, what will be the cost. And then there’s a lot of back and forth between your two departments and between the customers. So there’s a lot of time wasted there. And you want to limit that. So that could be a reason why we don’t want to have engineering involved in the process yet because we want to make it easier with our product configurator and make it easier to quote faster.

Another reason could be that you have some offers of different options that don’t necessarily fit together, and a lot of time it’s really based on experience that the vendor or sales rep can know if it’s really possible. If they can do those two options together. And once again, they might go back into engineering, ask them, is that possible? Can I do it? Can I not? And all that detail? So that’s why that could be another reason. And we can help you with the product configurator because we will see if yes or no, it’s possible to link those two options together.

Sorry, another reason could be that maybe the price provided to a customer could change based on who does the estimation, that is obviously a bad thing. So we don’t want to have two different prices, two different quotes if it’s the same actual product, with the same options from the same customer, right? So that could be a reason why. And you’d want to limit those errors, well, stop those errors.

And another reason also could be to have some options available, maybe you have a catalog, maybe not. And maybe you also have actual pictures. And you want to just make all that information in one place. So it’s easier for the rep and customer to be able to communicate between each other, to be able to understand what are the options that they actually need and have pictures to really show them and show the possibilities that what you can provide that’s more in general. Why would you want to have a configurator? Then we also have, why would you want to configure it with Genius solution? So why would you want to use our product configurator?

First thing is, if you are using Genius, you know that even if the customer picks all the right options, for example, if you are having a configurator on the side, then all of the answers are filled out, then engineering still needs to go in, do some design and then push that information back into the system. So you might still need to know all of the material that’s going to be used. And so you need to know for purchasing, job cost purposes, and all of that. And we want to limit that interaction and want to do all in one. So if you fill out some information, we also want you to be able to create that bill of manufacturing without going through engineering. I’m spoiling a little bit myself. We’re going to talk about it a little bit later.

Also, maybe you already have a product configurator, and it might be complicated to make adjustments. Maybe you need some programming to be able to change or modify some questions, add some answers, and all of that could be difficult for you right now with the current product configurator that you are using. That’s where Genius comes in. Our product configurator is really easy to modify, really easy to change. You don’t need any programming. It’s really, you have the control of your configurator.

And at the end of the day, you also want to win. You want to win when you win a quote and you turn this into a sales order. You need to know scheduling, resource planning, all of that information, and if it’s already there in Genius, it’s just easier to go through the whole process and to have quick visibility on resources and capacity and all of that.

So, I mentioned there are multiple benefits we’ve talked about, a bit of the pain that you might have in, they are related to our configurator benefits, obviously. And there are two sides of those benefits. So benefits for sales giving price and also for production, creating the actual bill of manufacturing. So we’re going to start with first things, sales. Why could it be easier for you? What will be a benefit? It will ensure consistency in the sales price calculation based on selection and prices. So you can have price lists in the system, different prices for different customers.

And then you’re going to have a standard price. So every time you’re quoting for that customer, it’s going to be the same price. So it will be more consistent.

Also, it will provide some freedom to a sales rep to operate within certain boundaries. So they’re not going to have to always communicate with engineering, communicate with other departments to make sure if it’s possible. And so they’re going to have more freedom in that way. But with boundaries because it will be predefined if those options are possible or not. And so that will increase the efficiency. Also, it would ensure cohesion between customer requirements and the specification provided by engineering. So, like I said, communication between what’s possible, what the customer wants, it will be in one place, so there’s no miscommunication, no misunderstanding. Everything is in one place, and it will be working for the customer and engineering, and also for the rep.

And with all of that, it will be easier for new hiring. So for their job, and to be able to ramp up new reps to be able to use and quote for your product because it’s not always easy to hire based on experience. So it will be just easier with that product configurator.

That’s for the sales part of things. Then I also mentioned that it will help for the product. So it will not only give you a price, it will also create that bill of manufacturing in the background. So it will generate the right material and item requirements that you need in order to fabricate that product, and also it will set the good routing step in the right order that needs to be done once again, based on the answer that you give into the product configurator. And while all that will obviously decrease the process time between the quoting process throughout fabricated faster delivery faster, and having invoice and gain in the market faster. So really it will help with the overall flow and lifecycle of the thought.

And, like we mentioned, all of that will be easy to use and easy to maintain. And that’s what we’re going to try to show you today with that dnucrp demonstration.

François Doyon: Want to remind everybody before we go into the demo that if you haven’t, if you have any questions as we go along, you might not have more on the theory side, but maybe as you see things, if you have any questions. Don is the day to focus in the Q&A section of Zoom. Again, we’re not going to open up the mics today. So if you have anything to tell us, if you do have to type in a question.

Pascale Aubé: Thank you, Frank.

And so, I just want to start here in that demonstration part of things. So I’m not going to explain too much what screen we are on. For those of you who it’s the first time seeing Genius, we are in the quote module, and I’m going to go ahead to a new quote.

We could use a product configurator at the sales order also, but I’m going to use it in the quote process here.

So the first thing we need to do is select a customer.

We mentioned we can have different customer prices, different discounts based on different customers. So obviously, I need to select which customer I’m going to use and then configure it.

So you see here, there’s a configure button, and I will see the list of every product that I can sell. In this case, I only have a trailer. If I had multiple lines of products, I could have multiple product configurators if needed.

So I’m going to select that trailer one.

I’m going to open that up. Perfect. So the first thing you need to understand here on the right, all of those tabs, the summary, price information, preview information, all of that will be there. It’s not possible to modify that. What you’re going to modify will be here: the pages. So there are different pages of questions that you can have, the title, the question, and the actual answer. So all those are all the possibilities of customization that you can do.

And so I’m here. The first thing I need to do is while answering the question. So I’m going to go ahead and select, for example, 5, 8. So that’s my first answer. Just maybe if you want to look at the bottom here, I don’t know if you see properly, but there’s the sales price. The sales price as I go, and as I select everything, I’m going to be able to see that the price will go up as I select the option.

Then I’m going to go ahead and select here, for example, the frame. So you see, the option price for that frame will be more expensive. So the updated sale price will go up as I go here. That is basically just a summary of everything. So I see all of these questions and the answers.

And here, if I look at the preview, then I’ve selected something. So as I select the images here will change, and with what I’ve selected. For example, if I choose a nose shape as thin or flat, then you’ll see the design just change.

And I’m going to go ahead and select some color. I’m going through the questions.

Another thing that we mentioned was that I can have conditional or questions that together don’t fit. So here, if I select 2, you can see I don’t have any spare wheels, so that’s not possible. So I can’t answer the question.

So that’s one way we can do it. We can just stop on the possibility to answer, and it can also have an effect on the other answer. So, for example, the rims here, I can see, have black and gray. Those are my two possibilities. But if I said 3, then they only have the black, so it’s only possible in black in that example.

But what if I told you, ‘No, I’m supposed to have those two options.’ So that’s not true. It’s really great if it’s possible. Then I told you it was easy to maintain, easy to add a new question and add a new answer. So then…

François Doyon: I’m going to jump in. So what you’re saying here, Pascal, is that we know we should be offering a silver or gray option on top of the black one, and we want to be modifying our model here so that somebody can come in next time and have both options and not just one showing up.

Pascale Aubé: Yeah, exactly. Thank you for the precision. So that’s what I’m trying to do here. I’m going to add a new answer. So I’m going to add the fact that I can have the gray.

I’m going into my item, that’s more into my setup. So I see the items, I see I have my black and my gray, and you can see in the black item here, into my specification 16, it says it is possible. It is. Add into that list for durins. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to add the gray rim into that same list. So I just need to go here.

And what I’ve just done is added the gray rim into that same list.

So I’m going into that configurator again. Just going to refresh a little bit. And now you’re seeing I have those two options.

Now I can select the gray. That’s a little bit more expensive and I can click here on my spare wheels.

And at that point, I can say, ‘Oh, maybe I’m satisfied with all of those answers. I’m going to save it.’

And you’ll see here it’s not possible to save it. Why is that so? You mentioned that sometimes, you know, engineering might need information that sales doesn’t think to ask, or it doesn’t really affect the price. But it’s still important for engineering. They need to know.

So we’re going to go here and we’ll see. Well, those are all of the answers that I need. They are mandatory. So I need to answer those.

So I’m going to select some answers that I need to have, and you see, I didn’t have anything that I need to answer for the doors, and any also for Miss Micheline’s.

But what if, for example, a customer asks you something that you know you can do, you’ve never done before. It’s not in the options. But maybe it’s possible and you want to do it for that customer?

That’s where we can go into that. Is there any engineering required? Maybe. Yes. So maybe that bill of manufacturing will work for 80% of their product. But maybe there’s a 20% that engineering needs to go in and modify something, so I can go and say, ‘Yes, it’s required.’ And what is the need? So maybe they want different types of lighting or something like that. So that’s maybe not the best example, it’s just an example of something that could be asked by a customer, and that it might be the first time. And at that point, maybe we can have an alert and engineering can receive an email telling them, ‘Oh, there are those new quotes that need your attention.

So you can still communicate with engineering, but we just want to minimize the need for it if possible.

At that point, you can see here in the pricing, I have the list of everything that I’ve selected and what is the price related to all of those items. So I know why I’m at that sales price overall. It’s because of all the options that I’ve selected and the price related to it.

Next step, I can just save it, and what it does. It’s not only, like I mentioned a lot of times, creating my price list. So I know the configuration.

But it’s also creating in the background my bill of manufacturing. So my recipe. And how am I going to manufacture that trailer? So I’m going to click into that engineering document for those of you who don’t know what an engineering document is.

It’s basically where my bill of manufacturing will be created, and the bill of manufacturing for that specific task, that specific customer with that specific quote.

So it’s really a custom bill of manufacturing.

I said that my frame was 5 by 8, and how to create that frame. I have all of those preparations that come in, and all of the items that I need in order to be able to create that frame. And, for example, in the finish information, I said that I wanted to use the white paint. So all of those details just came in into that bill of manufacturing based on the answers that I just gave into my product configurator.

So at that point, it’s pretty done. I can just save it.

And I can send it to my customer. So I’m going to go into my quote.

François Doyon: You’ve got to save your quote. Yeah, yeah. Sorry, I didn’t save it. Thanks.

Pascale Aubé: So I need to save it, obviously. And now I do have here, you can see I do have a number here. And so I’m going to use that quote.

Just going to make it easier for you to see. And what we see basically is the trailer. So that’s my line, my finished product. And underneath it’s all of the options that I just selected. So that’s my final validation with my customer. Did we understand each other correctly? Is that actually what you were asking for? And that is the price, and at that point, the customer tells me, ‘Yes, then we are ready to move on and to…’

François Doyon: Tailor it very easily.

Pascale Aubé: Exactly, and at that point, we can also have different filters. So you see here, show options. Maybe I don’t want them to know the details. I don’t want them to see every option.

I can just filter it, modify it, and then my quote is a little bit simpler. So all of those modifications can be done by filtering. So that’s pretty easy. But if you wanted a different report, it’s also possible to do. You can just modify that report, and that’s not an issue with these.

Then our quote is complete.

So I did mention earlier that it was easy to maintain, modify. So the first thing we did, we did modify the list of options that we could use. But I just wanted to show you more in the background how we can just create those pages, create those titles, and all of that detail. So I’m going to go away from the quote. And I’m going to go into an engineering document. Where is my template? So where I create that setup of product configurator.

So what you see here, if I click on my product configurator, you’re going to see.

First thing, you see the sections. These are the different pages: exterior, interior, the doors, and miscellaneous. So we see those are part of pages, then we also have titles, and we also have the questions. So if I open that up, you’ll see I have my questions, my title. So I have the frame and under the frame, I have those 2 questions. So I add the information of dimension and the frame string.

So if I want to add anything I can just edit. And I can say, maybe I want to add a whole new title. So I’m gonna go with maybe like, so I want to add that type of light. And it’s gonna go here. And I’m gonna add my question. So what is the type?

So the difference here. So the name, that’s more of a code. What you see in English, that’s what people will actually see onto the product configurator. So that’s the difference. That’s really what people are going to see in that English information if I save it.

And if I go back into my product configurator, I’m gonna see, I have a new section, that well, not a section really a new title that just been added. So the light. And what will be the type. And then I can enter the information there.

So really, that’s how easy it is to update and maintain. Another thing. I also mentioned earlier, so that we were going to see it onto the desktop. But there’s also it’s also possible to see it on to the web. So for those of you who know genius, there’s the interface that could be. So we have the desktop interface and also the web interface. So we are migrating throughout the web, and there is more and more module that is accessible into the web. It’s the same database you will have access to it. It’s not additional cluster. Anything is just a different way to see the information.

And here, we can see, we have access to that request for quote module and quote module. So here, first thing, we can see the list of every request that I’ve done.

And I can see where they are, whatever it is, their status in all of that detail. If I create a new… any quotes, didn’t use the right one here.

Perfect. Now, I’m just creating a new quote, all of the information there, same thing as into the desktop. So I just selected my customer.

And then I can add my product configurator click on it. I can see it. So it’s basically the same thing. It’s just really a little bit different visual might be a little bit prettier if you are with a customer, if you want to show, show them at the same time, so you can use the web also, maybe easier if you are outside of the office. If you are on the road is possible to access it throughout the web browser.

So same questions, click on it, and I can still see a preview and go through all of those still detail and see the price.

the preview and all. It’s really the same thing is just a different visual. So as you can see, those are the pages, the answer, and the total price. Again, you can save. And you have your final product.

That’s what I wanted to show you. I’m just gonna go back into alright PowerPoint. So that’s really what I wanted to show you about the product configurator, how we can use it, and how it is easy to maintain and modify.

François Doyon: Squeeze in again and say, if you have any questions, please write them down. Oh, I see some came up. I already answered one or two but if there are still any questions, please write again. If you have more questions, and I’m gonna go see that new one right now.

Pascale Aubé: It’s actually related to what I was going to say. So what is the next step? How can I start using it? So you are asking if the configurator is? It’s a separate model to be purchased. So it’s yes, it’s a different license. So it’s just an additional license to purchase if you want to be able to use your product configurator. So if you are interested in having access to it, you can communicate with the customer success. You’ll have access to the pricing and how you can start using it into your current use.

François Doyon: So is there an activation fee, though.

Pascale Aubé: Yeah, so how first thing is, yes, you need the license. So that’s one point I wanted to say, another point is well, you also need training. You need to understand how you can actually use that product configurator. Here are two ways we can go with it.

You can go with a consultant and have time and have someone help you set it up. That could be useful if you don’t really know how to structure it, or if you need more help to know what type of questions you can ask, what type of answers you can go for. But if you are comfortable, and you already have a structure, you already have a way.

To create those product configurators. Then you can also just go ahead and go into Genius Academy to be able to learn how to actually do it.

So Genius Academy, and I think a lot of you know already what it is. But for those of you who don’t? It’s our platform where we can see a lot of videos. It’s a learning platform. So there’s a ton of videos, quizzes, any information that you might want to see. It will be there onto Genius Academy. So it’s really it’s a flexible lower cost. And if you go with the consultant to actually training on everything, it’s 24/7 accessible goal. What we mean by that is, if you have a team. And you ask, for example, to four people to watch those videos, you can track and see, did they actually watch it? How long did it take? Did they do the quizzes and all of that, and it’s easy to access and have access to that information.

So you can go into Genius Academy. Just so, you know, there is a class just on the product configurator. So it’s three sections, it’s really, it’s all there, the video there to help you create. So it’s really from the beginning to the end. How you can, huh? Create your product configurator.

I see I see some questions I’m gonna get to those in one. So the only thing also that I want to talk about into Genius Academy. There’s also Kent team. So those are sessions that you can summon. So your consultant will be there. It’s a one-hour period, and there’s you can be multiple persons. You can go there just to listen to the question of other people, or you can go and ask your question. It’s free with Genius Academy, and it’s three times a week, so you can go and just ask your question, as you are trying to build your product configurator, and someone will be there to explain to you how to do it.

And so, next step, I’m just gonna mention the next webinar. I might let Frank talk a little bit more about it, because he’s going to be the one to do it. I don’t want to.

François Doyon: You’re pretty good. I’m definitely gonna invite you back, though. November 15. I’m preparing something pretty. Bring you with our product owners. We are releasing a new feature that’s to help you do credit card transactions straight from genius. So yeah, we’re gonna be talking all about those new features that will be coming out with our upcoming version 15.2 that should be released before Christmas.

Pascale Aubé: So if there’s no more question I guess. Thank you for being there today and have a great day. Thank you, Frank. Thank you, everybody.

François Doyon: Thank you. Bye.
